Ian Donato has been a resident of Dee Why for over thirty years. It was only in the past six years, after a friend got him into snorkelling on a regular basis, first at Freshwater Beach and then at Cabbage Tree Bay, did Ian find a passion for underwater photography. Although he has come late in life to underwater photography, Ian has feverishly been trying to make up for lost time. As such, he keeps it simple, primitive even. Using just a compact camera and natural light, he keeps it authentic. Fascination for the sea and sea creatures is the driving force here. In the meantime, without the marine sanctuary at Cabbage Tree Bay and its pageant of undersea life none of these works would exist.
