The wetland environment of Narrabeen Lake near my studio is a great source of inspiration for my work. This artwork is an abstraction from sketches made of the nearby lagoon and surrounding land form. The lake is home to one third of Sydney’s bird species including the elegant Black Swan; the wildlife lately has been enjoying the crystal clear waters after recent dredging of the lagoon.
I painted this artwork using artist quality acrylic paints and incorporated interior paints; guiding the paint as it flowed like water; avoiding too much brush intervention. I went along with where the paint was leading me, scraping back areas and experimenting with colours until it felt right with my thoughts of the lagoon.
